Propcopio said the departments subsequent preliminary investigation showed the Marlborough man had initially lost control of his car, for reasons unknown at this time, and crashed into the concrete median carrier separating the eastbound and westbound sides of I-290 near the Burncoat exit. State police are still investigating why the driver lost control of his vehicle and have not said whether inclement weather played a role. No immediate information was provided regarding potential injuries sustained in the crash. Police later said one person had died in the wreck. The wrong-way vehicle, a 2015 Honda Accord, was tracked down in the area of Belmont Street at Exit 21.
